In
Honor of Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom 2000
I
painted this while listening to Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk to
Freedom, on audiotape. His
life, thought processes, love of life and people, respect, forgiveness and
generosity were tremendously inspiring to me.
My paintings are
meditative and improvisational maps.
They reflect my mental activity about the world.
They are about flow of ideas, creativity, interconnectedness,
growth, playfulness, contagion, biology and communication, etc..

Struggling to Map the Sources of
Oppressions
2000
–2002
In these paintings/studies below, I attempt to identify and
understand the different aspects of human society (institutions, emotions,
ideologies etc.) that interact to create and sustain the prison system.
The primary purpose of these paintings is to explore ideas and seek
understanding. I want to show these works not because of their aesthetic
value but because they reveal one aspect of my process to understand this
complex subject matter.
I have a vision of creating a clear relational
flowchart of oppressive forces in the hopes that the diagram would then
help us strategize solutions. If
you are interested in this project, I invite you to join me. Draw or write your ideas and contact me.
