Make Freedom Ring

The bell has many
connotations for people. In relation to this exhibit I was thinking of
bells of freedom. The web is
a theme that recurs often in my installations and paintings.
All sorts of webs are beautiful to me.
On a very simple level they represent the web of life and
interconnectedness. Two large keys and a gavel (not in picture) hang at audience height and can be pulled. I wanted to include
a piece in the show in which people would have to decide to act.
Although pulling on a string is in no way comparable to the
commitment it takes to work for social justice, I wanted viewers to take a
symbolic step. |
